Apnea : When a Pillow Can't Help!
People who snore loudly and who are overweight may have sleep
apnea. This is a serious and potentially life-threatening
condition that is characterized by brief interruptions of
breathing during sleep. The National Center on Sleep Disorders
Research in the U.S., says that the person who has sleep apnea
almost always snores between episodes. These frequent interruptions
of deep restorative sleep often lead to early morning headaches
and excessive daytime sleepiness. See your doctor about sleep
apnea. Behavioural therapies include avoiding alcohol, tobacco
and sleeping pills, losing weight if necessary and in some
patients, sleeping on their backs.
