Help
for Snorers and Their Partners
The
Kapok Pillow may help stop someone from snoring.
Almost
half of normal adults snore occasionally, says the American
Academy of Otolaryngology, and 25 percent are habitual snorers.
The academy also points out that problem is more frequent
in males and overweight people, and it usually gets worse
with age.
The
physiology of snoring is actually quite simple. The back of
the mouth where the tongue and upper throat meet the soft
palate and uvula is quite soft and somewhat collapsible. When
there's an interruption in breathing and these structures
vibrate and touch, snoring occurs. Being overweight is one
common cause of snoring - flabby throat tissues are more likely
to vibrate as you breathe. People who sleep on their back
also tend to snore - because the tongue falls back into the
throat, narrows the airway and partially obstructs airflow.
Talk to your doctor about problem snoring. But try The Kapok
Pillow as well. It provides firm support to raise the head
up. The Kapok Pillow is an all-natural hypoallergenic bed
pillow that is filled with silky durable fibres from the Ceiba
or kapok tree. The fibre provides a perfect balance of lofty
support and softness, cradling the neck and head for a restful
and healthy sleep. Optimum support comes from resting the
head in a concave depression, the edge of the pillow supporting
the curve of the neck.
When
Dr. David Mohan, a family physician in Toronto and a habitual
snorer, started to use the Ceiba Pillow, he also started to
snore less through the night and sometimes, not at all! It
was a surprising remedy for something that had been disrupting
his sleep for years. "And while I don't know if I would
promote the pillow as a 'cure'," says Dr. Mohan, "What
I can say is that I'm happy and sleeping comfortably!"
(And so is his wife.)
